Biography

Dr. Chugg has been on the faculty at the Ming Hsieh Department of ECE at USC since 1996. He has served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications, Director of the Communication Sciences Institute, and Associate Department Chair. He has taught approximately 15 different classes at USC. He received the Fred W. Ellersick award for the best unclassified paper at MILCOM 2003 and the ASEE Frederick Emmons Terman Award in 2008. Dr. Chugg is a co-founder of TrellisWare Technologies, Inc., where he is Chief Scientist. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a National Academy of Inventors Fellow.


Interests

Professor Chugg’s research interests are in the general areas of deep learning, signal processing, and wireless communications. He is also interested in architectures for digital hardware implementations of advanced algorithms to achieve high speed or low power. He enjoys teaching and working with students at USC. He has a broad range of technology interests that he pursues through industry interaction and entrepreneurship.
